Immigrants Describe Their Experiences Living in America

Living in the USA - USA Visa Consultant

Author Roya Hakakian was 19 when she, along with her mother, escaped Iran in the 80s.

Her book, Beginner’s Guide to America: For the Immigrant and the Curious, describes what it is like to leave everything behind and begin building a new life in America. She entered the airport in the US and immediately noticed name tags on everyone’s shirts and she thought, “By God, all of them Americans!” She had left behind a monochrome life, and this diverse human landscape was almost unthinkable! Americans with names like Sanchez, Al-Hamed, McWilliams, and Cho.

Such diversity! She admits she was disoriented in every way possible, and it wasn’t jet lag. Everything looked so different than anything she had ever seen. It was like walking in a fog, and it took weeks for the fog to lift. America is an immigrant-friendly country where you will find many opportunities. Contact USA Visa Consultant to begin the immigration process. Their experienced team will walk you through the different stages.

Hakakian said a guide explaining the ins and outs of life in America would have been wonderful when she first arrived. She quickly learned you don’t haggle at most shops and supermarkets like in her home country. Her new book is set up as a guide, detailing the US immigration experience step-by step, as if it were being explained to a friend. Hakakian also wrote her book with US citizens in mind.

She has hopes that non-immigrants in America will read her book and have an idea of what immigrants feel while pursuing the American Dream. Contact USA Visa Consultant and begin living YOUR American Dream!
